Mailing List

The Academy of Sociology maintains a mailing list (as@listserv.dfn.de; homepage: https://www.listserv.dfn.de/sympa/info/as). The following types of messages can be sent to the mailing list:

  •     Calls (conference contributions, conferences, etc.)
  •     Information on job vacancies
  •     Latest news and reports

The mailing list is open, that is, both members and non-members of the Academy can subscribe to it and send messages. Furthermore, the list is moderated, with moderators ensuring that postings are relevant to empirical-analytical sociology.

If you want to subscribe to the mailing list:

Please send an e-mail to sympa@listserv.dfn.de and enter as text in the subject line of your message: subscribe as@listserv.dfn.de First name Last name (For example, Max Weber would have registered with the following subject line:
subscribe as@listserv.dfn.de Max Weber.
You can leave the main body of your message empty.

Next, you will receive a confirmation mail to which you have to reply. This prevents your being registered without your knowledge and consent.

Once the registration is complete, you will receive all future messages sent via the mailing list.

To unsubscribe from the mailing list:

Please send an e-mail to sympa@listserv.dfn.de and enter the following text in the subject line of your message: unsubscribe sympa@listserv.dfn.de. Again, you can leave the main body of the email empty. Make sure to send the email from the address that you used to subscribe to the mailing list in the first place. You will then, once more, receive a confirmation email to which you have to reply. This ensures nobody can unsubscribe you from the mailing list without your knowledge and consent.

If you want to send an email via the mailing list:

We appreciate contributions that are relevant to the readership of the mailing list (in German or English). To send a message to the mailing list, simply send the email you wish to be distributed to: as@listserv.dfn.de.

Upon approval by a moderator (which may sometimes involve a small delay as moderators might be briefly unavailable), your original email, along with the subject line you specified will be sent to all recipients on the mailing list (Only an "[AS]" will be automatically added to the beginning of your subject line, so please make sure you include informative text in the subject line, e.g. "PhD-Position in Quantitative Methods, LMU Munich"). You can also add attachments (e.g. job advertisements) to your e-mail. These should not exceed a file size of 1 MB, however.
